About us

Samba Panashe is a Bournemouth based community band supported by lottery funding, drawing together people of all ages and abilities.

Our band is very ably taught and lead by Alan Elliott GSMD ATCL, and Christian Masters-Bond. Alan is a drum and brass teacher, working in several local schools running their samba bands. He also plays professionally in several bands. Christian has been playing drums in and around Bournemouth for many years and is a grade 8 qualified musician. They have both been playing samba for about 10 years.

The aim of the band is to bring the rhythm and exuberance of Brazilian carnival street music to our audiences and to enjoy ourselves while performing. We play a variety of drums and other percussion instruments and occasionally involve our audience in our performances.

The band has been successfully performing in the area for the last 3 years at many local events including carnivals festivals and multi-cultural events. We are keen to appear at more nightclubs and any events with a Brazilian theme.

We have supported many local charities such as the Special Olympics, The Lantern Community and The Stables in Ringwood. We have also encouraged runners in both the Race for Life along Bournemouth seafront, and the New Forest Marathon events.

We have also run workshops, both as one-off events and weekly courses. We are keen to continue this work with both children and adults. Our workshops are very successful with people of all ages and abilities, including those with special needs.

We rehearse weekly at King’s Park Primary School, Ashley Road, Boscombe. Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm.  A warm welcome awaits you wether you are an experienced musician or a complete beginner. You bring the rhythm, we can provide the instrument.
