Welcome to the November edition of our eNews. In this issue, we look at last night's Street Child World Cup gala dinner which was joined by football stars. On the subject of Street Child World Cup, we have news about a new partner project who will help build Team Brazil, and introductions to our schools and university football challenges to help raise funds for the team. We also have news about Crescer e Viver's exciting new show which recently launched in Rio. Fundraising: Last chance to join the Big City Sleep
|
The count down to ABC’s Big City Sleep begins with only less than two weeks to go until 120 Londoners brave the cold by swapping their comfortable beds for cardboard boxes for a 12 hour mass sleepout challenge in Spitalfields |
On 30th November, sleepers will be entertained with live capoeira, acoustic music by Brazilian band ‘Zeep’ and a samba warm-up session with the capoeristas as well as hot food to help them while away the cold hours. 20th November marks the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and last night, the campaign to secure human rights for street children was marked by a gala dinner for Street Child World Cup. Project: ABC introduces Projeto Quixote With the first ever Street Child World Cup approaching, many progressive steps are being taken to prepare for this exciting event. The ABC Trust has partnered with Sao Paulo based Projeto Quixote which works directly with street children. Their work follows the same mission as that of ABC- transforming the lives of at-risk children, youth and families through education, social and cultural integration. Project: Crescer e Viver making waves
|
Just a few months ago, Rio based social circus project Crescer e Viver launched a graduation scheme with funding from ABC Trust - which recruited 15 talented youngsters from the project to train and become professional artists as well as train others. And now, they are setting the standard for social circus projects throughout Brazil with their show stopping performances, and changing the lives of so many under-privileged children who otherwise would have got into drug abuse, violence or in jail. Fundraising: Play for Street Child World Cup ABC introduces ‘Kids 4 Kids Footy Challenge’ to engage school children across the UK to play a part in Street Child World Cup by simply playing the beautiful game and raising funds for Team Brazil, whilst schools will also get the chance to win some fantastic prizes. We are also appealing to universities to take part in a fun tournament on 6th December which will give football fans and amateur players the chance to win England shirts signed by Ian Wright, a free Brazilian football workshop among many other perks.
