If you go on google and just look at samba drums then you'll get all the major makers, gope aren't bad and contemporanea are ok. But i've just got a set of surdo's from a maker in the UK called LTL, and they're awesome. websites www.ltldrum.co.uk. Hope this helps cheers

I'm going to beg to differ...

All depends on your definition of awesome. I, personally, won't rush into being in awe of LTL's output.

It looks to me that this company is aiming at schools not community samba inspired groups.

The agogos look neat but any player will never be able to click the bells together.

The surdos don't come in the correct sizes their range is way too small. Stackable surdos are a boon in school situations where space is tight. They have one head and if you turned up at our group with one I'd have you forcibly removed.

The repiques may be OK but they don't appear to sell 12" only 10", to be avoided.

The things they call whips look like rubbish too.

They are not showing us what their caixas look like.

So, great for school but no good for anywhere else.

I think the first question should have been what/who are you buying these drums for.

Sorry LTL but this kit gets 1 out of 10 from this samba snob.

Look at the poll results, they are telling us something.

ive also used Brasilando.com,

ive also used Brasilando.com, and a place called normans.co.uk before with no problems. I also bagged a new RMV Repinique on ebay for £45 although you don't see many Samba drums on there. I got my Caixa from Amazon of all places and it was a great price - might have been through Soar Valleys Amazon store though.

There are probably more but check out TDSounds, Samba Supplies, Soar Valley Music, One Voice Music and Newcastle Drums.

Here're the results from the "What Brand of instruments does your band play?" ongoing poll. It may not be totally representative though.
