Calidoscopio

Calidoscopio formed in February 2009. We are a community band and welcome anyone who wants to play. Our weekly Saturday Morning sessions are led by Beth de Lange. We start at 10am and finish at 12.15. We have guest workshops three times a year (so far we've enjoyed workshops with Holly Prest, Leon Patel and look forward to a workshop with Barak Schmool on May 8th 2010.)

We play Samba Reggae, Funk, Ijexa, Funky Timbalada, Maculele, Congo, a North Eastern flavour groove composed for us by Holly Prest, Warriors (a 6/8 groove composed by Raz Jayasuriya) and are learning Samba Batucada. We sometimes have a bass player (Marley Butler) and are getting a brass section and dancers ready for Derby Carnival 2010.

We play at events like Derby 10K run, Derby Eco-Fest, local carnivals (Stapleford, Melbourne etc), Derby PRIDE, and our big event is Derby Carnival which is 17th July in 2010.

We also have a party every year to celebrate our birthday in February. This year our friends from Nottingham School of Samba and Samba Cultura (Stoke-on-Trent) helped us celebrate by playing at our party.
