Arco Iris

Arco Iris is a fun and successful community samba band based in Cambridge. We were formed in 1992 to provide an opportunity to people in the local community to learn and enjoy samba music, and we remain completely open to new members. We play a variety of pieces from Brazil, Cuba and elsewhere, including Batucada, Samba Reggae, Timbalada, and Maracatu. In addition, we develop new pieces and occasionally arrange workshops with people like Ravin Jayasura, Sam Alexander, Dave Willets and Pat Seldon. We meet weekly for workshops, and regularly play gigs in Cambridge and further afield. We have also developed strong links and help with the organisation of Eastern Bloco, a collaboration of bands in the eastern area.
